Statement on anti-racism demonstrations
Milestones Trust is committed to promoting equality and equity for all people we support, our staff and the wider community. Milestones stands in solidarity with the mission of Black Lives Matter.
To help us to deliver on our commitment, we have partnered with SARI (Stand Against Racism & Inequality) for the last four years. We are proud of what we have achieved with their help.
We wanted to share with you and state that we fully endorse their statement (see below) about Black Lives Matter and how we can show our support for the show of strength we are seeing in communities locally, nationally and indeed globally. We know it can be difficult to know how we can show solidarity whilst ensuring we and our families stay safe and SARI’s statement does give us some ideas.
“Sari stands in absolute solidarity with the mission and belief of Black Lives Matter, @imagining and creating a world free of anti-Blackness, where every Black person has the social, economic and political power to thrive.
We also are in solidarity with all those who stand up and be the change they want to see. We understand why people are protesting on the streets at the moment, but we will not be there in person in respect of all those who have lost their lives or loved ones to coronavirus – including far too many Black and minority ethnic residents and key workers.
Instead we will be attending online solidarity events – keeping our staff, families and clients safe. We will also be hard at work, as we are every day and night to fight the ugly face of racism, and to uphold the rights of all those who come to us with shattered lives due to hate.”
