Involving people

Inclusion and involvement

Here at Milestones, we believe that the people we support should have their voices heard, so they have a say in what kind of support they receive and, ultimately, the lives they lead.

We encourage people to get involved in recruiting and training our staff, participating in Voices 4 Choice, a regular meeting for people we support to have their say on issues that matter to them, attend working groups and events, and giving feedback on our services, so they have real input into the organisation.

Some involvement opportunities are voluntary, and anyone we support is welcome to come along. Some are paid for, and require a skill and time commitment. The team of people we support that do paid for involvement work are called ‘Experts by Experience.’ We always welcome new applicants to become and Expert by Experience so please contact the Involvement team for more information.

“It makes you feel really valuable to Milestones, it makes you feel self confident and valued if that makes sense. It was a bit nerve racking presenting in front of the trustees, but I did enjoy it. It was rewarding, anytime I do involvement work it boosts my confidence.”

Gathering feedback

We continually gather opinions and feedback from people, it’s part of the way that we support people in their day-to-day lives. Understanding how they are feeling and giving them options and choices is part of our approach.

Service staff, people we support and friends and family are supported to gather and give feedback on their experiences through a range of means, including quality audits, feedback gathered by service staff, team meetings and key worker meetings.

We welcome all feedback at any time. Feedback helps us to improve the support given to people and the places where they live or attend.

Read our stories

Being involved has helped to promote my self-esteem. I get a lot of enjoyment out of telling my story. It has a big impact on the staff and how they think about mental health.
